[ Lukius has been around for a bit, settling himself into Luceti, and while he's spent a lot time lurking on the journals today's his first attempt at actually posting to them. He starts simple enough with a written post, feeling slightly sheepish about the questions. ]

How many of you have a Church or similar in your worlds? Can you tell me about them?

[ He's more than a little curious about the way things are run outside of Areulla, especially considering how well that seemed to go over for them. A few moments after, he switches to voice. ]

If there are others from Areulla here, those who are friends with Caius should know he's arrived safely.

[ And this is hesitation. ]

[ filtered from rommy — but it's a measly 20% or so ]

A young girl named Rommy has also arrived here from my world. She ... may appear harmless, but I'd like for all of you to keep in mind she's not what she seems.

Thank you. [...] How is it she always manages to come back? I beat her twice back home and she keeps coming back, and now she's shown up here.

[ ... Oh, yes, the issue of not being from the same point in time ... ]

What's the last thing you remember?

We had all just left Janna and defeated a large spot blocking the bridge out of the city. Father was gone, and you... [Remember that? You died bro. He screamed your name and everything. Very touching. All those beeps.]

[ ... Oh, yes. (He seems so genuinely upset and ... maybe Lukius softens his icy prosecutor heart for a moment.) ]

... I barely escaped with my life. Long enough to find a Priseputh that allowed you to kill Rommy.

[ Yes, allowed. ]

So you were alive all along. But I was sure you were a goner and the spots took your body. It's good to know you didn't die after all though.

[Especially seeing as he has a track record for all his close family and friend's family dying all around him. His last remaining blood relation surviving is definitely a good thing.]

And it's good that we finally killed Rommy, too, with your help. I can't say she didn't have it coming after all she's done.

[ Way to casually pass off his best friend dying. No hard feelings, though, he knew she had it coming, too. ]

You aren't surprised at all?

[Maybe if she hadn't killed the good majority of people he holds dear then he might have cared!]

A little. But given the way things were going it was just a matter of time before she showed up again, right? She was bound to go down eventually.

[ Not really what he was asking about, but he's not going to nitpick, either. ]

She was a Spot, brother.

[ Blunt. Very, very carefully blunt. ]

She was? [Remembering back to when Lukius mentioned finding a priseputh to use... Hey wait!] You barely escaped with your life earlier, but you came to stop Rommy with a priseputh despite your condition. What sort of idiot are you?!

[This is how he shows that he cares...]

[ — He wasn't expecting that at all, and he frowns, indignant. ]

You're the idiot! She would have killed you if I hadn't! What choice did I have?

You never know, we might've stopped her eventually!

[Maybe he's being a bit of an ass about this, but having not experienced fighting Rommy with his brother's help he isn't really aware of how harsh some of the things he's saying are.]

The last thing I would've wanted would be you pushing yourself way too hard and ending up worse off than you were! [Dead.] I do appreciate your help Lukius, or at least I probably did, but if you're going to do something like that after being so badly wounded I can't help but worry about you.

[ He ... really wants to argue back, as fiercely as possible, some great debate and put his leading voice to good work because he hasn't had the opportunity yet, but this is something new and bizarre and it's the same thing he doesn't know what to do with, the brotherly affection and concern, and he opens his mouth to say something (something that's probably stupid) but closes it just as fast, clenches his teeth. ]

You would have never defeated her without my help. [ There's some hint of anger underneath that, sure, some brief notion of you're an idiot and why can't you appreciate what I did, but he lets go of it, exhales. ]

I can take care of myself, Caius. Don't tell me you forgot already.

[ Just because they're brothers don't change that he's lived all his life just about as close to alone as it gets. ]

[Now if only he possessed some of the same tact and self control in order to stop himself from saying something stupid. But alas.]

Even if we didn't defeat her then we would have fended her off just like the other times! [Probably. Maybe. Why is acknowledging help from others such an issue, and from his brother no less. It probably wouldn't kill him to show a little thanks, or at least it didn't when he thanked Tilkis and Forest back home. Plus this really does nothing for the whole 'didn't mother ever teach you any manners' thing.

Pause. Awkwardly trying to find the right words.]

Thanks. I know you can take care of yourself... But so can I! [He's beaten plenty of Spots after all, and if Rommy is a Spot then that's just what she is. Another Spot. But no, no, not turning this into more of an argument.] You understand why I would be worried though right? Even if you say you can look after yourself the big brother has to keep an eye out on the little brother.

[Having lived a fairly lonely life full of upset it really does no good to dwell on things in the past, so focusing on the here and now is best. Right now they're brothers, and making sure your brother is safe and going strong is just something a brother should do. Or at least Caius thinks so anyway.]

[ Too bad his logic's still off and his touching brotherly speech has to be pushed aside in favor of a fact check, much easier for Lukius to point out than, say, his issues with all the big brother talk. (It's still so strange, and ...) ]

Her homeworld was too close. She would have destroyed you for sure if you tried. [ A pause, shaking his head. ] You and your companions did fend her off ... but so close to home, she regained her strength too fast.

[ The stop there is the slightest bit abrupt, because he's still going on in his head but ... he's not sure how well it would go over bringing it up anyway. ]

[Homeworld? She did mention something about her hometown before disappearing back in Janna.]

What do you mean, that there were other worlds and places back in Areulla like here? [What are awful last minute plot twists anyway.

Though pleasing to hear that they were able to stop Rommy again the fact she quickly regained her strength as soon as she was defeated again was bothersome. Normally she would retreat before trying anything again, so this 'homeworld' business must be incredibly important, moreso than stopping the Pope.]

I didn't know anything about a 'homeworld' or what was going on after leaving Janna except that Couber was still alive.

[ Hey, this time he can explain things to his brother without being a massive douche about it. ]

The purpose of the incomplete Life Magic was to open a portal to the Spots' homeworld. The closer the portal was to completion, the stronger they got. [ ... ] After you defeated Rommy, we were going to stop the King from fully opening the portal.

[ We!! He wanted to go, too. :c ]

[Oh good, this means he doesn't have to rise up to Lukius' doucheness and kick up another argument. Getting along is fun.

Give him a moment, this is quite a lot to take in. Sure he knew the King was involved after what the Pope said but not what his involvement was exactly.]

So it wasn't to bring people back at all. [Which means someone, probably the King, convinced the Pope that's exactly what it did.] It sounds like we got pretty far if we ended up going on to stop the King. Were you going to go with us?

[If he was tired, injured injured and then helped fight Rommy he can't imagine he would let his brother continue on in order to protect him.]

[ Man, Caius can probably hear the pout in Lukius' voice — ]

I wanted to. You wouldn't let me.

[ ... And he knows it was a bad idea in the first place, but damnit it was his battle, too, Caius. ]

Sounds about right. I couldn't let you go in that situation. [Good job future self.]

I'm sure you could have used the additional support, though. The King is no pushover.

[ ... He'd guess. ]

But you were hurt and tired out, no one would let their brother go on to fight even more.

[Out of all the other people he knows with brothers-- no one.]

Leaving me on the snowy mountainside wasn't the kindest choice, either.

[ Jerk. :c ]

[...Welp.]

It's the kinder of the two things, having you wait instead of you coming along and only getting more hurt!

[He's sorry? /brohug]

What if my coming along would be the decisive factor in the battle? I don't know yet whether or not you were successful.

[ Not that he doubts his brother or anything, but ... well, he doubts his brother. A little. ]

[...]

We'd handle it. The King would be stopped along with anything else he might have had planned!

[This party doesn't run on doubt. This is why you're getting left out in the cold.]
